Even Radford High had its sports heroes.  A few rare guys are in the Hall of Fame in the James Alegre Arena on campus.  Henry Keohouhou, William “Stretch” Watson and Mark Holmes pictures are up there.   Henry Keohouhou and Stretch Watson were tri-sport athletes.  We also had crossover stars who played baseball, football and basketball. Russ Kamalu went on to professional football.

In the 1961-1962 school year, Radford High won both football and basketball championships in the ROIA.  Quite an accomplishment for a new school.  Several Class of 63 RadGrads were instrumental in those wins.

Our sports heroes include songleaders and cheerleaders, considered as athletes in both grace, dance and energy.  Being an athlete and part of the cheer teams meant commitment, discipline and practice after school.  Congratulations to our Sports Heroes and Lettermen!

The were the Babe Ruth Baseball team of 1960.  Thanks to Byron Reynolds, who is on the bottom row, the extreme right.  Some others are Mark Holmes, Jerry Hibbler and any more you can help identify.

The yearbook did not identify the teammates

He played football, ran track and made the girls swoon.  Plus, he was a very nice guy.

Mark Holmes went on to letter at the University of Georgia for football during 1966-67.

Mark is an honoree on the Hall of Fame wall at the James Alegre Arena.
